Day 23

It’s no secret to anyone what it takes to make wise food choices  and what it means to our overall health.  Many times if feels daunting though to truly educate ourselves  in creative ways of making tasty meals that everyone likes.

I’ve been on a clean eating journey for many years and I still have so much more to learn. What actually started my food overhaul was watching my older sister live with RA. This debilitating  disease  has taken most of the joy out of her life.  She has been bedridden for over 8 years and depends on others for her basic needs in life.  When I started to notice career related stiffness in a few joints in my hands I started devouring knowledge  about what holistic natural alternatives I had at my disposal to help keep me healthy. Anything I could do to not have to  take the drugs that had so many devastating side effects that  scared the shit out of me, I was going to do.!!!

Along this journey  I have discovered a number of “food mentors”  that I would like to share with you. Food as we all know, is “nature’s farmacy”.  If we spend our money and time eating as organic and healthy as possible, hopefully we won’t need the pharmaceutical companies not so “healthy” options.

What we’ve been doing for the last 22 days  in this challenge has centered around our skin for the most part.  As we all know our skin is the largest organ of the body , so everything about the state of our (skin)  health is written all over our face ( and body). We can’t separate what we put in our body from what the results will be on the outside.  It’s not vain or superficial to want to have a glowing complexion and bright sparkling eyes, it’s a sign of love and caring for one’s self and others.

I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite people in the world of clean eating, women who really walk their talk and are advocates and activists for our society and the global food supply. Most of these women have had very personal reasons for their calling in this arena.

Check out these amazing women:

Kris Carr– was diagnosed with Cancer at 31, now over a decade later she has helped so many people learn about how to live a healthy, joyful life. Bookmark her website, the information is invaluable.

Food Babe -Vani – a mother from Baltimore Md who started out  fighting for her young son with ADHD, but soon become the leading food activist in the U.S. We have her to thank for all the current laws regarding GMO labeling. All the changes with fast food companies for healthier, cleaner foods with less chemicals are also compliments of the Food Babe!  Another website to bookmark!

Stephaine Clarke and Willow Jarosh– registered dietitians and the duo behind C&J Nutrition, an NYC and Washington DC based nutrition consulting , communication and workplace wellness company. They are also nutrition experts at Self magazine since 2010.  Read over  their 2 week clean -eating plan to give you ALL the things you ‘ll need to make the healthy changes to your overall eating habits.  Little changes mean a lot!!! Don’t underestimate the power of starting small!!
